Porsche Key Replacement
Blog Post

Googling Porsche key replacement isn’t how every car lover wants to spend their time, but it’s sometimes an unavoidable reality for many car owners! Whether you lost your key, broke it in the lock, or are having issues with your fob, the right auto locksmith can help. If you find yourself here in Louisville KY or surrounding areas, our team at Lan Locksmith can get you a new set of keys for a reasonable price and fast turn-around!
Here are some of the most common questions we get from Porsche owners looking to replace or duplicate their car keys!
How do I order a new key?
As a Porsche owner, you have a few different options to go about getting a new set of keys, including:
Option One: Go to the dealership
The first option that probably came to your mind was a trip to your dealership. Your Porsche dealer will be able to order, cut and program a new key. But, this is typically the most expensive option, and you may even have to tow your car to the dealership so that they can program the new key onsite.
Don’t worry, this is only one option!
Option Two: Order a blank key yourself and then get it cut and programmed by a professional
One popular option is to order the blank Porsche key yourself and then have it cut and programmed by a mobile auto locksmith. This is a good way to save some money, but only if you’re sure that you’re ordering the right kind of key for your particular Porsche model. Here are a few of the most common:
HU66T5
This is a replacement transponder key that will be compatible with the 1997 and 1998 Porsche Boxster. When you receive it, it will need to be cut and cloned in order to work with your car.
KR55WK45032
The KR55WK45032 is a flip key fob replacement that is compatible with Porsche Cayenne models from 2005 to 2011. When you receive it, it will need to be cut and programmed to your car.
KR55WK50136/ KR55WK50138
This is another option for fob replacements for more recent models that aren’t yet equipped with smart keys. It’s compatible with 911 models from 2010 to 2017, Boxster models from 2010 to 2016, and Cayenne models from 2010 to 2017. It comes with an internal blank emergency key that will need to be cut. As with the KR55WK45032, these replacement fobs will need key cutting and programming before use.
Option Three: Let your auto locksmith take care of everything
Don’t want to deal with the hassle of potentially ordering the wrong blank for your Porsche? Then consider leaving that part to the pros! You’ll already need to work with an auto locksmith to cut and program the new key, so you might as well allow us to oversee the ordering, as well! We’ve got the industry experience to know where to get you the best deal for your blank key or fob.

What does Porsche car key programming entail?
Whether your Porsche uses a transponder key or a modern fob, it will require some kind of programming so that your car doesn’t reject the new key.
In the case of transponder keys, we need to “clone” the code from the old transponder chip. This is sometimes a very simple process while other chips use a more complex “rolling” code that updates every time the key communicates with the car.
Porsche models that use keyless fobs typically require more advanced software to be able to introduce a new fob. In these cases, your auto locksmith will need to have the appropriate car key programming machine to be able to integrate the new key into your Porsche operating system. Even auto locksmiths that have programming machines may not have the software for European cars or your particular model of Porsche, so you’ll need to call ahead to make sure that they can work with your car’s system.
