2016 Hyundai Elantra ignition cylinder replacement Louisville Zoo in Louisville KY
We got a call from a customer near the Louisville Zoo off Trevilian Way. Someone had broken into their 2016 Hyundai Elantra and damaged the ignition cylinder as you can see in the pictures. Very common situation unfortunately for many Kias and Hyundai’s.
The car wouldn’t start and the key just spun around with no response. They were stuck in the parking area and needed help fast.
Our mobile got there shortly after they called. When we arrived, we could see right away that the steering column had been damaged and the ignition lock cylinder was destroyed. As you can see in the photos, we had to remove the steering wheel, disconnect the airbag wiring harness and clock spring, and pull out the damaged combination switch assembly. The old ignition cylinder was completely ruined.
We installed a brand new OEM Hyundai ignition lock cylinder, cut a key to match, and put everything back together. The steering column covers, clock spring, airbag connectors, and turn signal switches all went back in place. By the end of the job the car was starting up smooth like nothing ever happened.
